LAB 6: Effect of Temperature on Enzyme activity

The chemical reactions within living organisms are regulatd by conrolling the points at which catalysis takes place. Life itself can be viewed as regulated by catalysts. The living catalysts are called enzymes. Their performance is at most at their optmum temperature.

PROCEDURE
  1. Label five test tubes; room temp, 25, 40, 60, 100 all in degrees celcious.
  2. add 2mL of amylase(saliva) to each test tube
  3. place test tubes in appropriate water baths for 5 minutes
  4. cool the test tubes to room temperature rapily
  5. make sure all test tubes come to room temperature
  6. add 2ml of starch to each
  7. test the test tubes for presence of starch
  8. plce the mixture on white tile and add iodine
  9. record the results
